Liverpool fans react to Rhian Brewster’s impressive performance against Tranmere

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Rhian Brewster put in an impressive performance against Tranmere, in what was the Reds’ first pre-season game this summer.

The 19-year-old has been spoken of very highly by Jurgen Klopp, and the German seems to be placing a tremendous amount of faith in the teenager for the upcoming 2019/20 campaign.

Check out some amazing tekkers in the video below…

It has been reported that Klopp has decided not to buy a new forward as he is keen to hand Brewster a more prominent role, and you can certainly see why judging by the 5 foot 11 striker’s performance against Tranmere.

The Liverpool academy graduate hit two goals and also grabbed an assist in just 45 minutes of action yesterday evening, resulting in a number of Liverpool fans on Twitter taking to their keyboards to discuss his fine showing.

Let’s take a look at what the Reds supporters have been saying about the precocious young talent…

Arsenal interested in Juventus star Moise Kean, fans react

[ad_pod ]

Some Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to respond to The Daily Mail’s report that Juventus forward Moise Kean is of interest to the north London-based club.

The Italian champions are said to be willing to do business at £31.5m, but are insisting on a £36m buy-back clause being inserted into any potential deal.

Check out 5 reasons why Arsenal need Wilfried Zaha in the video below…

Kean, 19, shot to prominence last season with six Serie A goals in just five starts for the Turin giants, and also shone at the Under-21 European Championships this summer with two goals in two games.

He is definitely an exciting prospect, but one that the Gunners should probably stay away from.

They have their own up and coming starlet in 20-year-old Eddie Nketiah, and would also find themselves in a difficult position if Kean impresses and Juventus activate their buy-back clause as a result – it would effectively be a loan deal where Arsenal make a tiny profit.

Let’s see what the Gunners fans on Twitter have to say about the reported interest in Kean…

Rangers’ Glen Kamara worth 100 times what they paid, says journalist

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Derby County writer Tom Thorogood has praised Rangers’ bargain buy Glen Kamara after his display in the recent friendly between the two sides.

What’s he said?

Thorogood has had his say on the once-Derby target after the Finland international was part of Steven Gerrard’s side’s 1-0 win over the English Championship team.

The midfielder had been a target for Frank Lampard’s side last December, according to The Daily Mail, but the Gers pipped them to his signature.

Having originally been brought in on a pre-contract, Gerrard moved quickly to get him to the club immediately and paid £50,000, per The Courier, to accelerate his departure from Dundee in January. Thorogood thinks that was a bargain for the former Arsenal youngster.

The Derby County News writer stated: “Rangers 1-0 Derby: Best player on the pitch today was Glen Kamara. Derby passed up the chance to sign him for a mere £50k last January. He must now be worth 100x that at least. Cracking midfielder and in an area Derby are short on quality.”

What a bargain

Kamara proved an instant hit at Ibrox with some dominant displays, leading fans to gush over his Old Firm performance in May. The 23-year-old nailed down a starting berth at the club last season after arriving for the nominal fee.

The midfielder was a staple of the team as he played 17 times for Gerrard’s men in the second half of the season. Arriving for such a small fee and from a struggling Dundee side, who were ultimately relegated after losing Kamara, expectations were probably relatively low on arrival, but he proved any doubters wrong very quickly.

The value for money the club has already got from the deal is impressive as he helped them secure second spot in the Premiership and a European qualifying spot, all for just £50k.

Yet, with Thorogood’s statement that he’s now worth 100 times what the Light Blues paid for him, it could be en even more lucrative deal than first imagined.

Going by the journalist’s calculation, Rangers could have a £5m player on their hands, and as much as fans would of course hate to see the gifted midfielder leave, if he ever does depart Ibrox they can rest assured knowing the club will make a hefty profit.

Thorogood’s review must be music to the ears of Gerrard and director of football Mark Allen.

Manchester United: Red Devils in talks to sign Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

Manchester United are in talks to sign Serbian star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to Marca (via The Metro).

[ad_pod ]

Milinkovic-Savic is being targeted with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer facing a fight to keep Paul Pogba, who has made it clear he wants to leave the club with Real Madrid and Juventus interested.

According to Marca, Real Madrid will approach the Old Trafford giants before Thursday’s deadline in an attempt to sign Pogba for less than the £150m asking price.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has confirmed that the Serie A club are open to selling the Serbia international Milinkovic-Savic this summer.

Links with the Serbian follow on from a summer of uncertainty surrounding Pogba’s future. Back in the middle of June, the France international revealed that he wanted a ‘new challenge’.

The admission came off the back of a season of strained relationship between the Old Trafford faithful and Pogba last campaign, with the Frenchman a target of verbal abuse from fans following the 2-0 loss to Cardiff.

For the price being touted for his services, a move for Milinkovic-Savic would be very underwhelming, especially if it meant Pogba would leave the club.

Last season, Pogba trumped the Serbian in every offensive category, including shots, key passes, dribbles and fouls won per game (via WhoScored). His attacking quality was key for the club as he scored the most goals and contributed the most assists at the club. To let him go for someone who cannot fill the void would be a bad decision.

As well as his contributions, you can’t overlook Pogba’s experiences for both club and country. The 26-year-old has won multiple trophies at both Juventus and Manchester United, as well as lifting the World Cup with France in 2018.

Pogba has far too much quality and experience to be sold, especially if his replacement is not good enough. Any potential replacement needs to be able to carry the north-west club, and Milinkovic-Savic’s statistics have shown he could struggle to do that.

Liverpool fans use Nathaniel Phillips loan exit to vent frustrations

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that Nathaniel Phillips had signed a new long-term deal with the Reds before joining Stuttgart on loan, but many supporters used the opportunity to vent their frustrations about the transfer window.

It has been a busy few days for the Merseyside giants in terms of loan exits, with Taiwo Awoniyi and Liam Millar also both leaving earlier this week.

Liverpool confirmed that Phillips, who has been with the club for the last three seasons, will play his football in Germany’s second tier during the 2019-20 campaign.

But another departure is not quite what the Liverpool fans had in mind, and reaction to the news of Phillips’ loan departure has served as a pretty interesting barometer of how supporters are feeling right now.

While some have questioned why so many players are going out on loan from Anfield, others have used the club’s tweet to show their anger at a lack of signings this summer – youngster Sepp van den Berg and free agent goalkeeper Adrian are the only arrivals so far in the transfer window.

Here’s a look at some of the replies as the club confirmed Phillips’ loan move…

Southampton defender Maya Yoshida has every right to be unhappy with Hasenhuttl

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

When Maya Yoshida started at the heart of the three-man defence against Feyenoord during pre-season, it seemed as though he was set for a regular spot in the starting XI this season.

Jack Stephens had missed the trip to the Netherlands because of injury, but given his continued unpopularity – as shown by the reaction by these fans to his display against Burnley on Saturday – not many would have picked him ahead of the Japan international anyway.

Manager Ralph Hasenhuttl appears to disagree though, and it now seems likely that had the former Plymouth youngster been fit, it would have been him who partnered Jannik Vestergaard and Jan Bednarek in Rotterdam instead.

That is exactly what happened a week later in the final pre-season encounter against Cologne at St Mary’s, as the Austrian clearly tested out the team he wanted to play at Turf Moor from the start – had it not been for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s illness it would have been two identical XIs.

So it was Stephens who got the nod against the Clarets, and to be fair his performance could have been a lot worse before he was taken off in the 72nd minute as Hasenhuttl decided to throw caution to the wind with his team 3-0 down.

But all three of those goals came from defensive errors on the left-hand side – something Stephens, Vestergaard and indeed wing-back Ryan Bertrand need to take a large portion of the responsibility for.

The Denmark international’s misjudgement – albeit in tough conditions – of the ball launched into the air by Burnley prior to the first goal was poor to say the least, while he completely switched off when Ashley Barnes ghosted in unmarked for the second.

Yoshida would have been watching on knowing that those were the types of mistakes he once made on a semi-regular basis in a red and white shirt, and the reason why he has often found himself as back up rather than in the side during his seven years at St Mary’s.

Given he has had players of the calibre of Jose Fonte, Toby Alderweireld and Virgil van Dijk ahead of him in times gone by, that isn’t too surprising.

However, there have never been any murmurings of discontent behind the scenes at a lack of first-team action, as he has got on with whatever situation he has found himself in like the true professional that he is.

Southampton are in a different place now though and they simply don’t have quality individuals like the aforementioned trio in their backline, or midfielders like Morgan Schneiderlin and Victor Wanyama in front shielding them.

That is what makes Yoshida’s absence as things stand even more confusing, because he is their most experienced Premier League player who has improved over the years following his move from the Eredivisie in 2012, and he is a leader – as shown by the fact that he currently captains his country.

Arguably he is also their best – or at the very least the best of a bad bunch – and quickest centre-half, with Vestergaard and Stephens prone to errors and Bednarek clearly still learning his trade at the age of 23.

In that respect then and with the deadline day addition of another youngster in Kevin Danso who could feasibly replace Stephens in the near future, Yoshida would have every right to be cheesed off with Hasenhuttl right now and be inclined to throw his toys out of the pram ahead of the visit of Liverpool on Saturday.

Fortunately, he just isn’t that sort of player.

Rangers fans aren’t pleased with Greg Stewart after poor League Cup showing

Greg Stewart lasted just shy of an hour in Rangers’ 3-0 win over East Fife in the League Cup this weekend, and the fans are far from pleased with what they saw from the former Aberdeen winger.

Stewart was making just his second start for Steven Gerrard’s side and he failed to inspire the supporters. Signed from Birmingham this summer after loan spells at Aberdeen and Kilmarnock, the 29-year-old is yet to leave a good impression on the Ibrox faithful.

Despite Stewart’s lacklustre display, the Gers made light work of their League One opposition. Goals from Jermain Defoe, Joe Aribo and Filip Helander ensured their spot in the quarter-finals, where they’ll face Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Arena next month.

Even with the victory in testing circumstances, many fans were left questioning why the wide-man was brought to the club. The supporters were far from enamoured with his display against the third-tier opposition, with many glad to see he was hooked just before the hour mark.

Here’s what they had to say on Twitter about the underperforming Stewart:

Tottenham fans love Dele Alli fitness update ahead of Arsenal clash

[ad_pod ]

Dele Alli has returned to full-contact training alongside his Tottenham Hotspur teammates ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash against Arsenal.

Alli is yet to represent Spurs this season due to a hamstring problem that the England international suffered over the summer.

The 23-year-old was pictured on the club’s official Twitter account taking part in Tuesday’s session, though, ahead of what is a huge North London derby.

And according to The Telegraph, Mauricio Pochettino’s side expect to have the former MK Dons youngster available for selection against the Gunners.

Tottenham started their 2019-20 Premier League season with a win over Aston Villa before picking up a welcome point away to the champions Manchester City.

The capital outfit lost 1-0 at home to Newcastle United on Sunday, though, meaning that Alli’s return to fitness has come at a very important time.

What have the experts said about Norwich City’s surprise star Todd Cantwell?

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Expert Roundup feature, which provides three quotes from those in the know in order to illuminate fundamental strengths, weaknesses, quirks, stylistic comparisons and general observations of players, transfer targets and confirmed signings.

Few saw this coming. Even factoring in a very successful loan stint in the Dutch second tier with Fortuna Sittard at the start of 2018 and even after making 24 starts for Norwich City last term as the Canaries resided on the highest perch of the Championship, nobody outside of East Anglia anticipated one of this season’s breakout stars to be Todd Cantwell.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder certainly had the potential to become a permanent fixture in Norwich’s first team but that aside, where is his array of England youth caps? Where was the usual buzz and transfer gossip that typically surrounds a highly promising young English talent?

Regardless, in the Canaries’ first three games back in the top flight the local lad – born and raised in nearby Dereham – has greatly impressed, proving himself a useful foil to the free-scoring Teemu Pukki and in doing so now comes overdue international recognition in the form of a first call-up to the England under 21s last week.

Perhaps it’s time we got properly acquainted with Cantwell, a player who is presently out-performing some very well established names in the Premier League.

To do this where better for Football Fancast to start than assessing the views of those who know him best…

Daniel Farke – Norwich coach

The German coach is not one to talk up his emerging young players – that includes too defender Ben Godfrey and highly-rated right back Max Aarons – and that comes across here as Farke discusses his prodigy following Norwich’s 2-1 win over Rotherham last term.

Indeed the short passage below acts as a perfect example of a coach offering encouragement with one hand while signalling a warning with the other. As per the Eastern Daily Press:

“I am totally happy with how Todd develops and how he influences our game. But he has not won the Champions League or the World Cup, he has not worn the Three Lions on his shirt, and when I think how many goals and assists we have so far then we can add something.”

Watch Norwich City Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Richard Phillis – Cantwell’s PE teacher

If Farke’s warning suggests that further work and dedication is required from his young charge to make it to the top then that shouldn’t be a problem. According to Phillis – who taught the player as a schoolboy at Northgate High school – Cantwell has always been prepared to roll up his sleeves for the cause. As per the Eastern Daily Press:

“He worked so hard for the team and contributed above and beyond. He was confident and committed and could turn a game on its head with his unbelievable skill and talent.”

The video below remind exactly why we’ve missed Norwich fans in the top-flight…

Neil Adams – Norwich loan manager

In hindsight it was Cantwell’s loan switch to Holland in January 2018 that was the making of him. The man responsible for the move – himself a former Canaries favourite and one-time manager at Carrow Road – is convinced that from here on the only way is up. As per the Eastern Daily Press:

“Todd is a great one! I’ve known him since he was 10-years-old and he’s a great kid.”

“If we could put in front of you a Todd Cantwell from before he went to Sittard, and the one now, you’d think it’s a different person – physically, maturity, experience, confidence. They love him there, the fans want him back and his stock is now so high and he did himself so much credit. He’s a bigger, stronger lad with the way he matured over there too.”

Verdict

Should Cantwell heed his gaffer’s implied words and keep his feet grounded then there is every reason to believe that Norwich may have unearthed a James Maddison MK II.

The buzz starts here.

Leeds fans react as Mateusz Klich discusses his future at Elland Road

[ad_pod ]

Leeds received a double dosage of contract news on Wednesday evening.

First it was revealed that Kalvin Phillips was close to signing a new deal with the west Yorkshire side in an interview on the BBC involving Angus Kinnear.

A Polish Leeds supporter then posted a further interview on Twitter. This time it was with Mateusz Klich who revealed that he was on his way to renew his contract at Elland Road.

The video within the tweet features a Polish journalist and helps to clarify the future of the midfielder who has so far claimed one assist in 2019/20.

Some fans responded to the news with elation, struggling to contain their excitement. One said they loved Klich more than their Dad whilst a further said that the 29-year-old knew there was no better place to be.

Another individual suggested that the creative man was an underrated player.

Klich was linked with a switch to Burnley in the summer so a new deal would all but rule out the possibility of a potential move elsewhere in the immediate future.

Last term, he was imperative to Leeds’ run to the playoffs, scoring ten times and laying on nine assists, per WhoScored.

Here’s the reaction.
